dSURF, Quality Fluorosurfactant

dSURF is a high-performance surfactant suited for production of highly monodispersed and stable microdroplets. Provided at 2% in 3M™ Novec™ 7500 fluorinated oil, dSURF allows high performance droplet formation and long-term stability even in challenging conditions such as dPCR and cell culture experiments.

  • Low cross-talk between droplets compared to mineral oil

When using droplets for cell analysis, both sample cross-talk and dispersion should be minimized for greater accuracy and minimal reagent loss. dOIL (Novec™ fluorinated oil) offers a low drop-to-drop transfer of organic compounds, while maintainning high gas solubility and permeability which have a major impact on cell survival or analytical reaction efficiency.

Droplet generation reproducibility and stability are two pivotally important parameters for successful applications. Fluigent guarantees the best conditions for reliable results providing a quality surfactant.

CAN I DILUTE dSURF IN FC40 OIL?

dSURF should only be diluted in dOIL (Catalog # DR-RE-SU-AI) for optimum dilution conditions

WHAT ARE dSURF and dOIL STORAGE CONDITIONS?

Both dSURF and dOIL should be stored at room temperature protected from light. If divided into aliquots, glass tube should be used.

WHAT CELL TYPES HAVE BEEN TESTED USING dSURF SURFACTANT?

Various cell types including bacteria (E. coli), yeasts (Pichia) and mammal cells have successfully been grown in droplets using Fluigent surfactant.

HOW TO PREPARE A 1% DILUTION OF dSURF?

1% surfactant solution may be required for some applications.
To prepare a 1X solution of dSURF, add an equivalent volume of dSURF 2% to dOIL in a tube (e.g. 500µL of each). Vortex the solution for a few seconds. The new solution is ready to use.

WHAT IS dSURF CRITICAL MICELLE CONCENTRATION (CMC)?

dSURF Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) is 0.05% in weight.

WHICH DYES FOR dPCR HAVE BEEN TESTED WITH dSURF?

Common dPCR dyes including FAM™, HEX™, VIC® and EvaGreen® have been successfully tested so far.

THE SURFACTANT LOOKS MILKY AFTER A FEW WEEKS, IS IT CRITICAL?

Not at all. This is a expected change when micelles are formed. It does not affect the quality nor the performances of the surfactant as micelles will be broken down with the flow.
