The Flowell A new accessory associated with the Microfluidic Control System (MFCS) allowing the complete control of your microfluidic experiments along with easy fluidic connections and a user friendly interface. The FLOWELL integrates manageable reservoirs from 500μL to 2mL with high precision flow meters. Together combined: the stability of the Fastab technology and the precision of the FLOWELL, the MAESFLO achieves complete control (pressure and flow rate) in your microdevice down to a few nanoliter per minute, with a typical response time of 80 milliseconds.

The facts Current fluid manipulation systems such as syringe, peristaltic or piston pumps are poorly adapted to the manipula- tion of fluid volumes in the nanoliter range, leading to hysteresis, long equilibration times, irreproducibility and pulsing.
FASTABTM Technology ♦ A Wheatstone bridge is adapted to pneumatic properties (pressure divider bridge) allowing a dynamic control of pressure in the Flow sequencer MFCS.
Flowell ♦ Three mass flow meters with pressurized reservoirs to monitor the flow rate.

Pressure or Flow control ? Don't choose Get both
The solution To address this problem, FLUIGENT has developed the MAESFLO System (Microfluidics Flow Control System + FLOWELL), based on the patented FASTABTM technol- ogy. With up to 8 independent channels and a 40 ms response time, the MAESFLO allows the design, optimization and full automation in a few clicks, of virtually any spatial and temporal flow circulation patterns from sub nL/mn to hun- dreds of μL/mn in complex microchannels architectures. With the Flowell accessory, you can monitor your flow rate and enslave the MFCS by feedback control.

Pressure or volume flow control? ♦ Syringe or peristaltic pumps may seem suitable for applications requiring a knowledge of the transported fluid volumes. However, due to hysteresis and connections compliance, actual instantaneous flows in microchannels often have little to do with the pump’s setting. ♦ In many cases, calculating flows in a Microfluidic network under high resolution pressure control is easier and more accurate than using volume-based pumps. ♦ The MAESFLO flow meter system allows feedback control of the MFCS.
